A Russian method of freezing semen, involving a saccharose diluent, gave a CR of around 70% but required an insemination dose of 100 ml. The Beltsville technique, using BF-5 medium, required insemination doses of 10 or 20 ml, but CRs were low (28.2-47.8%). The Hulsenberg method, using a lactose medium, required insemination doses of 10 ml, and gave a CR of 59% with a litter size of 9.0.
