Prognosis of acute epidural haematomas since introduction of computerized tomography

The article reports on the results of treatment of 213 patients who had been operated on because of an acute epidural haematoma before and since the introduction of computerized tomography. CT diagnosis entailed a saving in time. Nevertheless, in the author's series mortality rose by 4.6% since patients with a primarily more unfavourable initial condition had been admitted for treatment. The prognostically decisive factors are, as before, the speed at which the haematoma spreads, and the clinical manifestations of the state of the disease.
