Ten families with > 1 member affected with rheumatoid arthritis in different generations were fully HLA typed. The association of HLA-DR4 with rheumatoid arthritis was confirmed. There was no specific haplotype which was strongly associated with disease, nor was there an association between HLA antigens and age of onset, family history, nodules or rhematoid factor.
