Experiments on isolated mice were carried out to examine the effects of met- and leu-enkephalins and the tetrapeptide Tyr-D-Ala-Gly-Phe-NH2 on different forms of interspecies (zoosocial) behavior as compared with analgesic activity of the peptides. Systemic administration of the peptides resulted in dissociation of behavioral and analgesic effects; intraventricular administration produced relative agreement between suppression of interspecies aggression and affective behavioral responses to pain. This suppression correlated with the appearance of the displaced forms of activity of the grooming and cleaning types.
