Many orthopedic abnormalities are found in the Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome, a rare syndrome of premature aging. The orthopedic lesions found in 2 current patients as well as those in the 60 previously reported cases are presented. Osteoporosis, osteolysis, dysplastic skeletal changes, avascular changes in the femoral capital epiphysis and dislocation of the hip occur commonly, and there is a marked delay in bone-healing after fractures so non-union often is encountered.
