The ability of neutrophils to phagocytose Saccharomyces cerevisiae and iodinate Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans was evaluated when the neutrophils were incubated with therapeutic and above-therapeutic concentrations of vinblastine, vincristine or vindesine. The phagocytic capacity, but not the phagocytic rate, was decreased in the presence of vincristine but not the other drugs. Above-therapeutic concentrations of vinblastine and vincristine reduced the iodination of C. albicans when compared with the control. Therapeutic doses of these drugs apparently were not detrimental to important neutrophil functions.
