The effect of household smoking on the infestiveness of diphyllobothrium latum from fish to man

The household smoking of fish, using 3 smoke boxes marketed in Finland, was studied with regard to the temperature necessary to render Diphyllobothrium latum plerocercoids non-infective. A temperature of 50 deg C for 5 min was regarded as the necessary lethal temperature. The temperatures attained in all 3 boxes were considered sufficient to destroy D. latum plerocercoids in locally-caught perch and pike.
