Myocardial contractile function in infectious allergic myocarditis

In 83 patients suffering from infectious-allergic myocarditis, clinical, laboratory, histological and EM examinations of the myocardium and its contractile function were performed using myocardium biopsy specimens and autopsy materials. Impairments of the myocardium contractile function in the patients examined were caused by the development of immune inflammation. The character of these impairments was predetermined by the degree of morphological changes on the part of the myocardiocytes and the stroma, and by changes of the microcirculatory flow. For early therapeutic correction of the myocardium contractile function, digitalis drugs and metabolic agents should be used.
