Effect of azaperone on changes of stress reaction and catecholamine content in rat adrenals during the immobilization stress

The effect of azaperone on the development of stress-reaction in rats was examined to reveal its stress-protective action. The content of catecholamines in the adrenals was measured and ultrastructure of chromaffin cells of rat adrenals was investigated. Azaperone has a stress-protective action (absence of ulcers in the gastric mucosa, enlargement of the lipid layer in the adrenal cortex, an increase in the content of catecholamines, etc). The highest protective effect was noted at the stage of stress-reaction exhaustion.
