The content of .beta.2-microglobulin in blood and urine was determined in 22 patients with different forms of renal arterial hypertension (chronic diffuse glomerulonephritis, chronic pyelonephritis, renovascular hypertension). The patients with chronic diffuse glomerulonephritis demonstrated the highest blood and urine content of the protein. It exceeded by > 5-fold and 4-fold, respectively, that of the blood and urine content seen in the control group. The content of .beta.2-microglobulin in blood and urine of patients with renovascular hypertension did not differ from that observed in the control group. The high level of .beta.2-microglobulin was detected in patients with concomitant derangement of concentration and N2 excretory renal functions. It was appreciably lower provided only the concentration function was impaired; in normal renal function, there was no difference as compared to healthy subjects. The evidence obtained indicates the great significance of the study of .beta.2-microglobulin for the diagnosis of renal pathology, specifically of renal function.
