Two-week-old sunflower seedlings were inoculated with 1000 J2 M. incognita and sprayed with phenylalanine, valine or cysteine at 2000, 1000 or 4000 mu g/ml once 7 days later or twice on day 7 and 15. Results were assessed at 45 days after inoculation. Plant shoot height and weight were not affected by any treatment nor were there signs of any growth disorders. Phenylalanine at 1000 mu g/ml was the most effective in reducing galling and number of egg masses but was less effective at higher concentrations. Cysteine and valine were less effective.
