The value of Prajmalium bitartrate was studied in 15 patients suffering from the results of a recent myocardial infarction. The effects of treatment were measured by conventional, effort and dynamic ECG. The criteria of successful treatment were a qualitative suppression of premature ventricular beats of grades 3, 4 and 5 in the Lown classification and a quantitative reduction of premature ventricular beats of more than 85%. Treatment with Prajmalium bitartrate was successful in 87.7% of the cases. In some cases it was used in combination with amiodarone and metoprolol. That the results were not due to spontaneous variations in arrhythmia was clear from the fact that premature ventricular beats reappeared after 12-24 h in those patients in whom treatment was suspended. The drug was classified as a well-tolerated antiarrhythmic of medium duration.
