Peroperative manometry and flowmetry of the bile ducts: its role in establishing common bile duct pathology

A recently introduced method of peroperative electromanometry of the bile ducts is described. It is based on the principle of recording the pressure created by a constant pump flow. External factors influencing the peroperative manometric results were determined under laboratory conditions in 5 anesthetized dogs and a protocol for manometry composed. Twenty consecutive patients underwent peroperative manometry under these protocol-controlled conditions and the results, although preliminary, demonstrate a good correlation with common bile duct (CBD) pathology.
