Current problems in parenteral feeding

The main problems of parenteral feeding, including those pathologic conditions in which such feeding is indicated; medicines used for this purpose (protein hydrolysates and amino acid mixtures); the significance of the energy component in parenteral feeding; criteria for evaluating the efficacy of parenteral feeding; and the role of the functional state of the body of the patients fed parenterally were discussed. Further major tasks of the work aimed at improving parenteral feeding are outlined, in particular the development of new drugs of directed action, research into the mechanism of their action, and the development of optimal parenteral feeding programs.
