A total of 85 patients with dyskinesias of the biliary tract were examined in accordance with a special program. All the patients showed chronic disorders of duodenal patency accompanied by duodenal hypertension. Detailed examination of the motor-evacuatory function of the duodenum enabled the detection of the causes of the disorders and the institution of an effective conservative treatment in 58 patients. The treatment was aimed at the correction of duodenal patency disorders and excluded the administration of bile-expelling agents. Seventeen patients were subjected to the correction of duodenal patency disorders and excluded the administration of bile-expelling agents. Seventeen patients were subjected to the correction of duodenal patency disorders by transversal antiperistaltic duodenojejunostomy and dissection of the Treitz's muscle. The treatment terminated in a complete clinical recovery according to a follow-up study performed within 1-7 yr. Dyskinesia of the biliary tract is only a symptom of duodenal hypertension rather than an independent disease entity. The main problem in examining and treating the patients lies in diagnosing the chronic disorders of duodenal patency and determining their therapeutic or surgical correction.
