A brief reference is made to classification of gestoses. For purposes of research, classification should be restricted to cases of pregnancy-induced hypertension which are identical with cases of preeclampsia. Grouping by pathogenesis, as established by the 2 American committees [Committee on Terminology of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Committee on Maternal Welfare], is suitable for proper coverage of all cases of gestoses for statistical records.
