The rising concentration of the pregnancy specific beta 1-glycoprotein (SP-1/PS beta G) in the serum can be easily estimated without major technical and financial effort. Low values are found in cases of severe toxemia and intrauterine growth retardation. The SP-1/PS beta G can be an additional parameter to supervise high risk pregnancies.
