The prevalence and severity of soil transmitted helminths in an urban slum community in Colombo

All of 100 children under 14 years of age from a slum community in Kirillapona, Sri Lanka, had helminth eggs in their faeces. 91 were infected with Ascaris, 91 with Trichuris trichiura and 16 with Necator americanus. The age and sex differences in the prevalence and severity of infection are discussed.
