A salt lick containing 16% magnesium provided a daily Mg intake of about 14 g in 12 cows. Experiments with four cows with a cannulated duodenum showed that the apparent digestibility of this supplementary Mg was 35%, which was similar to its digestibility in various diets. None of the six supplemented cows developed hypomagnesaemia, but one of six unsupplemented cows did.
