Acupuncture in retinal arterial occlusion

The results of acupuncture in 245 cases of retinal arterial occlusion are presented. The visual results were divided into 4 grades: marked improvement 24.9%, good improvement 28.6%, slight improvement 33.9% and ineffective 12.6%. Acupuncture is noted for its immediate effect and a dramatic improvement in vision. Delay in treatment does not seem to affect results. The results of acupuncture are superior to medicinal treatment; 3/4 of the patients preserved the vision achieved at the end of acupuncture treatment during an average follow up period of 3.8 yr and 2/3 retain enlargement of the visual field during the same follow-up period.
