A total of 1141 serum samples were tested by indirect immunofluorescence for Toxoplasma antibodies; 634 samples were positive and 507, negative. Of the negative sera, 66 (13.2%) induced nonspecific polar fluorescence of toxoplasmas. The reaction was observed with laboratory prepared antigen and with some lots of the lyophilized antigen manufactured by Biomed. The polar fluorescence factor present in the serum was IgM. The immune system of the host (mouse) had no effect on distribution of the antigen reacting with the factor.
