Unusual Vibrio species found in diarrhoeal stools

Two unusual Vibrio spp. (V. alginolyticus and group F vibrio) were found in diarrhea patients' stools. V. parahaemolyticus was isoalted with the V. alginolyticus from the same patient, who had severe diarrhea with abdominal colic. The patient from which the group F vibrio was isolated had recurrent episodes of diarrhea. Except for the decarboxylation of amino acids and salt tolerance, the V. alginolyticus and the group F vibrio shared many cultural and biochemical properties. In the antibiotic susceptibility testing, V. alginolyticus was more resistant than group F vibrio. The enterotoxigenic role of these organisms in diarrhea is not known.
