In a female patient aged 45 yr an inflammatory cecal tumor was diagnosed. The patient had an emergency operation with the diagnosis of acute appendicitis. The appendix was, however, unchanged. In view of the extent of the tumor in the posterior wall of the cecum and the impossibility of removing it, due to the presence of a neoplasm, the whole cecum was removed and cure was obtained. Examination of the surgical specimen showed that the tumor was caused by diverticulitis. This report confirmed the view that an isolated cecal diverticulum differs from the syndrome of colonic diverticulosis.
