Although great success has been achieved in prevention of many diseases and their effective treatment, disorders of the respiratory system, both acute and chronic, are still a serious public health and economic problems in Czechoslovakia. This was demonstrated by the analysis of patients with working disability from selected nontuberculous diseases of the respiratory tract in 1978, and by the mortality rate for these diseases.
