Myocardial infarction in a man handling oral contraceptives. Immunologic study

The article presents the case of a 38 year old man hospitalized for myocardial infarction. The search for cardiovascular risk factors revealed that he had been smoking since age 18. The man had been employed for years in a pharmaceutical laboratory which produced estroprogestational agents. The blood serum of the patient was tested with ammonium sulphate at 25% saturation and found to show a rate of immunocirculating complexes compatible with the presence of antihormonal antibodies, and similar to that of women who had experienced thromboembolic accidents because of oral contraception administration.
