Oral contraceptives and myocardial infarction

In a previous article, an increased risk for myocardial infarction has been described for women over the age of 40 who smoke cigarettes and also take oral contraceptives. The mortality rate from coronary heart disease for women under age 40 has been unchanged since 1935. It is very minimal. That among women 40-49 years old has declined slightly since 1940. These findings suggest that oral contraceptives have had little impact upon coronary-heart-disease mortality.
