On the basis of an ambulatory practice, and without specific reference to sexology, a model is presented for the functional analysis of sexual dysfunctions. This model not only provides a topographical description of sexual behaviors, in their developmental as well as present-state aspects, but also integrates many nonspecifically sexual variables relevant to the symptoms encountered. The analysis gives rise to several working hypotheses from which a strategy for multimodal treatment can be derived. In this perspective, the so-called sexological techniques appear as one particular moment in a multitarget therapeutic process.
