Rats were inoculated with a yeast-like cell suspension of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis and then submitted to stress. They were compared to a control group in which the stress was not applied. Three months after the inoculation, 10 infected rats were put on a shaker for daily periods of 4 h during 17 days. All the animals (with or without the stress regimen) were killed on the 17th day. Although the stress had caused marked decrease of body weight and disappearance of peritoneal fat, there were no differences between the 2 groups in relation to the lesions and evolution of the experimental disease. Thus, under the conditions in which the stress was performed in this experiment, the course of the disease evidently was not modified. Variations of the conditions, such as more days of stress, will be used in future experiments.
