A preliminary parasitological survey which included 544 students was conducted in 4 public schools in Concepcion. Two of these schools were located in the outskirts of the city and presented a low socio-economic level, whereas the others were centrally located and their socio-economical standard was higher. Only 1 stool sample from every student was examined by a modified Telemann method. Infection frequencies were Giardia lamblia.sbd.25.9%, Entamoeba histolytica.sbd.2.0%, Trichuris trichiura.sbd.26.4%, Asacris lumbricoides.sbd.17.6% and Hymenolepis nana.sbd.3.3%. The results are discussed in relation to sewage facilities and the economical and cultural conditions, and are compared with those obtained in a survey conducted in the same section of the city in 1964.
