Prolactin secretion in nonpregnant sows treated with prostaglandin F2 alpha

An injection of 25 mg PGF2 alpha into 2 non-pregnant sows resulted in a sharp rise in plasma prolactin to approx. 130 and 180 ng/ml resp. approx. 30 min after the injection. Five hours after treatment, the plasma prolactin values of the treated females were the same as those of an untreated control female . The effect of PGF2 alpha on prolactin secretion did not seem to be dependent on plasma progesterone.
