Clivus chorodoma with pulmonary metastases appearing as failure to thrive

A 17 mo. old boy who appeared to have failure to thrive and dysphagia was diagnosed as having a clivus chordoma, a tumor not previously known to metastasize. The patient died within 7 mo. despite combination chemotherapy and radiotherapy. On autopsy, pulmonary metastases were found along with local invasion of the tumor.
