Accidental injuries among technical personnel in railways at Allahabad

Accidents (230) occurred to 4660 technical railway employees during 1 yr at the rate of 49.35/1000 persons. Most employees involved were young and less experienced workers, with the accident rate declining with increased age and experience. Most accidentees belonged to various railway workshops and maximum accidents took place at the track and traction sites, followed by those at locoshed/workshop. Hit by or against an object was the most common agent factor, falls being next; these agent factors together caused > 88% of accidents. The most common resultant injury was laceration in 121 cases, while 42 cases resulted in fractures. Accidents resulted in 2 deaths and 15 permanent disablements. Inattentiveness and lack of concentration and supervision were important contributory factors.
