The morphologic features of exfoliated cells of endometrial stromal sarcoma in ascitic fluid are described. The malignant cells had ill-defined cell borders, a high nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio, dense hyperchromatic nuclei, nuclear molding and cellular cohesion. In ascitic fluid, exfoliated cells of endometrial stromal sarcoma must be distinguished from lymphosarcoma, anaplastic small cell carcinoma, granulosa cell tumor, embryonal carcinoma and endometrial carcinoma.
