Five patients with burns of the hands and face which occurred while lighting solid fuel stoves were treated in the course of 6 wk. These are the 1st of a series of a new type of burns and these will increase in number apace with the increasing number of stoves installed unless better information about the function of the stoves is provided and simple rules in their handling are observed.
