Retention line of partial removable prostheses

The importance of the course of the clasp line in statics of partial removable prostheses is discussed. In place of the clasp line, the term retention line, which apparently conforms better to the nature of the problem, was suggested. Examples of the principle of the retention line with emphasis on the importance of this course in relation to the main part of the prosthesis and occlusal plane and also to the role played by the prosthesis introduction in preventing the loss of the prosthesis, were also discussed. Factors determining the efficiency of this preventive action are discussed. Among them, the foremost ones are the resistance of the retention arms of the clasps which counteracts forces shifting them towards the incisive margins or masticating surfaces. The principle of a correct course of the retention line , was reevaluated.
