Phosphatase activity of the blood in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis

Data are given on changes in the alkaline and acid phosphatase activity of leukocytes and blood serum in patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis. In most of the patients, an increase in the level of alkaline phosphatase of neutrophils and blood serum was observed; the degree of the increase was dependent on the manifestation of the inflammatory processes in the lungs. Changes of lymphocyte acid phosphatase activity were of 2 types; this apparently reflected the organism's immunological state. The activity of acid phosphatase was decreased in some of the patients; in others it was increased. A direct correlation was found between the activity of acid phosphatase and the lymphocyte blast transformation reaction.
