Two cases of the lumbago-hematuria syndrome which is likely to be a manifestation of a little studied disease not reported in the literature are discussed. The disease is phasic in nature, runs its course with exacerbations manifested by lumbago, hematuria of varying intensity and fever that is not infrequently intermittent. The nature and mechanisms of the disease evolution and its management require further study.
