Renovascular hypertension due to spontaneous thrombus formation - a successful case treated by saphenous vein bypass grafting

A 55 yr old man with renovascular hypertension for 3 yr was treated by renal artery revascularization, using aorto-renal saphenous vein bypass grafting. The patient had an excellent pressure response. Histopathological examination of the stenotic portion of the right renal artery revealed a thrombus in the arterial lumen with channels of recanalization. Because of the absence of predisposing factors and associated diseases, this is apparently a case of renal artery occlusion due to spontaneous thrombosis.
