Tricuspid cusp prolapse is diagnosed very rarely. Three cases with this deformity are presented; in 2 of them, prolapse was combined with ischemic heart disease complicated by myocardial infarction, and in 1 patient with mitral-aortic rheumatic heart disease. The developmental anomaly of the tricuspid cusp is described in 1 patient: There was only 1 papillary muscle in the right ventricle to which the chordae from the posterior and lateral cusps were attached, while the chordae of the anterior cusps were attached to intertrabecular muscles. Questions concerned with the diagnosis of tricuspid cusp prolapse are discussed, including those by the M-method of echocardiography. Attention is drawn to difficulty in diagnosis; certain differential diagnostic features for defining atrioventricular valve prolapse are given.
