Studies on heterocyclic compounds: Part I--Thiazole esters as anticholinergics

Several thiazole esters were synthesized to evaluate their anticholinergic activity on guinea pig ileum. The log-dose response curve indicated that some of the esters antagonize the stimulation produced by acetylcholine competitively. The blockade was irreversible and competitive at the higher concentration of the drug. The ED50 values of the compounds were evaluated using atropine and transergan as standards. None of these compounds have comparable activities relative to atropine but 3 of the compounds showed higher potencies relative to tansergan.
