Distribution of species of the Paramecium aurelia complex in Spain

P. aurelia complex species found in Spain were P. primaurelia, P. biaurelia, P. triaurelia, P. tetraurelia and P. novaurelia. P. biaurelia shows the widest distribution. It was found in 5 localities: in the vicinities of Orgaz, Guadarrama and Avila, and in the cities of Segovia and Madrid (Retiro Park). P. primaurelia was identified in 3 localities: in the vicinities of Orgaz, Guadarrama and Segovia. P. novaurelia also was found in 3 localities: in the vicinities of Orgaz and Avila and in the village of Sonseca. P. tetraurelia was collected in Madrid (Casa del Campo Park) and Guadarrama. P. triaurelia was identified in the neighborhood of San Rafael. This is a new locality of this species in Europe, formerly known only in Romania and North America.
