For a 125-day period, dried tansy ragwort plant material, containing 0.16% pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA, 6 different alkaloids), was administered via rumen cannulae to 4 goats at a dosage of 1% body wt./day; the 4 kids were separated from their dams and fed their dams' milk twice a day. Amount of milk approximated 150 ml/kg daily. During the study period no appreciable body wt. losses occurred in the does, the kids gained wt. and appeared normal, and milk flow was not affected by the PA. Concn. of PA in milk averaged 38.1 mu g/100 ml.
