Choledochoduodenostomy: an answer to some complex biliary problems in the critically ill patient

Choledochoduodenostomy is apparently a relatively safe, simple and effective procedure and can afford excellent results in those elderly or high-risk patients in need of a biliary drainage procedure. Indications for its use appears to include multiple retained or recurrent stones, ampullary stenosis, malignant obstruction, strictures of the common duct and benign common duct tumors. All 4 patients had complete resolution of their clinical symptoms and their abnormal laboratory findings returned to normal. There were no postoperative complications and none of these patients had a recurrence of symptoms throughout the follow-up period.
