A review of the available clinical and pathologic information suggests that the biologic behavior of prostatic carcinoma can be characterized by one of three different tumor-growth kinetic curves. Failure to identify the biologic potential of the tumor, as indicated by the pattern of its growth curve, can result in inappropriate selection of treatment.
