The common house dust mites population was influenced by the type of house keeping practices. The densities of mites recovered from floor dust of hospital were lower than those recovered from floor dust of schools and hostels. Mud-walled houses showed higher mite-densities in comparison to brick (plastered or unplastered), hay or wood houses. Old houses and unencased mattresses contained larger amounts of dust and mites. The density of mites and quantity of dust were less on noncarpeted floors and in new mattresses. The quantity of dust and mite-density recovered from mattresses and floors in houses with domestic pets or allergic subjects was higher.
