An eye with corneal damage and 6 normal eyes range of 7-82 years old were photographed with a non-contact specular microscope (Nikon AS-1). Cell density decreased significantly with aging and showed a linear regression (r = 0.74). The maximum cell density obtained by the method was 3511 cells/mm2 in a 7 yr boy. Minimum density was 1867 cells/mm2 in a 64 yr old woman. Loss of endotherial cells after cataract extraction, corneal transplantation and corneal damage was 14 .apprx. 65%.
