The bacteriological control methods have not been standardized in Turkey until today. In this article, we will describe the membrane filter technique and the results of bacteriological examinations of 167 water samples taken from Behrampaşa, Kepenek and Sivas city water supply and from some fountains which are built on three springs. According to the results obtained: 1) The city water supply (except Behrampaşa and Kepenek) is contaminated. 2) The chlorination of the city water is unsatisfactory. Chlorination is made in a rather primitive way for the source and reservoirs. The initial amount of chlorine which is about 0,2 ppm. must be raised at least to 2 ppm. 3) The Tavra Village which is situated around the main supply must be removed unconditionally.
