The effect of the Kalanchoe sp., K. blossfeldiana, K. pinnata and K. beharensis sap on dysentery bacteria was studied under experimental conditions. The sap of all the plant species can inhibit the growth of shigellas. The K. pinnata and K. beharensis sap has the most pronounced inhibitory effect on the intracellular growth of shigellas. In experiments on the model of Shigella keratoconjunctivitis of guinea pigs, it was shown that the bacteriological clearance of the eye in animals treated with the Kalanchoe sp. and K. beharensis sap was considerably faster than in the nontreated infected animals. An opinion is advanced on the necessity of further studies in the kalanchoe sap for obtaining preparations promising for medical practice.
