The anatomy of hooves, nails and claws is outlined. Special attention is paid to foot and limb conformation particularly the relationship of the third phalanx and visible external hoof. The problems of hooves, nails and claws, including the special problems in soft-footed species (elephants, camelids, tapirs and hippopotamus), are considered. The importance of correct trimming of these structures is stressed. The special problems of bandaging are discussed.
