Immunoblastic lymphadenopathy with hypercalcemia

Hypercalcemia, a recognized complication of lymphoproliferative disorders, has not been described with immunoblastic lymphadenopathy (IBL). A case of IBL complicated by hypercalcemia is described in which a low immunoreactive parathyroid hormone level and a negative assay for osteoclast activating factor from the bone marrow and peripheral leukocytes are demonstrated. Bone marrow biopsy obtained prior to the onset of hypercalcemia revealed immunoblasts adjacent to areas of apparently active bone resorption.
